Windows 8 Seriously, WTF?
« on: July 05, 2012, 04:59:00 am »
I just got a good look at the Metro UI at a friends house - what a fucking steaming pile of shit.   WTF is MS thinking?

I wouldn't use that shit if MS paid me to.  I realize you can do a quick regedit and get rid of it but curious as to what consequences there are to doing so (I understand win explorer loses the ribbon).

Anyone messing around with the consumer preview?  I was thinking about loading it one of my machines, but....nah:  I think I'll wait.   Not sure I'm done throwing up yet.   :o

*As a disclaimer, I've been a mac user for years (but do have win 7 machines at home as well).  I wasn't really interested in Win8, but recently decided to go back to a PC as my primary machine and will be building a new PC this weekend (unless critical parts do not show up).

Well, no surprises here. Win 8 is doomed to be shit. Its just the logical order of things.

Win95 - Crap
Win98 - Good
Win2k - Crap
WinXP - Good
WinVista - Crap
Win7 - Good
Win8 - Crap

Win 8 is trying to look like a mobile OS. Which isn't where it should be.

@Ande, I've seen that before. And the truth is undeniable. What doesn't every one switch to *nix. Windows would drop in price and more support for *nix would excel...

Win8 is supposed to be oriented to tablets (so they say...) it's still pretty ugly. MS developers seems to become more retarded every month.

MS is trying to keep up with Apple, Google, and other mobile devs. But I think everyone is upping  the  tablet platform way to much. I mean, it is supposed to be the future, and it does work (kinda). I think they tried to copy the Apple model and make it idiot proof, but just made it more confusing. If you can't figure out how to use a damn computer, then GTFO. That's what I think, anyway.

You guys are all faggots,   "MS is trying to keep up with Apple, Google, and other mobile devs", no this is called going forward.

Microsoft is orienting on new touch screen computers and they even say that you don't have to use windows 8, windows 7 is as good for non touch devices.
So ffs stop bitching, it is a great os, i used it alot and it is great and going forward.

Hey, no disrespect to MS. I used it too, I'm actually using it now. I'm just saying, how many of you guys own devices that it was designed to work with, other than a PC? I just wish they would have put a option is so you could disable metro, and give me a start icon. It's like a five step process to see all the installed programs. Until touch screens become more popular, I don't think it is going to do well.

As i said, just like microsoft did, you do not have to use it, windows 7 is going to be the top product next to it. So a option to disable metro is useless because that is windows 7

Of course I would discover this particular list a little too late;
I had windows 95, 2000, and currently on a Vista. I feel like Microsoft is out to get me.

I honestly don't understand why people bitch about Vista so much, but whatever. XP was my favorite. As far as Windows 8 goes, it seemed just like 7 to me, once you get past the thing with the tiles and whatever.

I liked Windows 2000 a lot. It was like an XP prototype. It felt like they were making XP and "here's our base OS. We haven't added any extra crap yet so here it is nice and crispy"

As i said, just like microsoft did, you do not have to use it, windows 7 is going to be the top product next to it. So a option to disable metro is useless because that is windows 7
Windows 8 is faster, they have quite a few improvements. Boot time is much faster on a fresh 8 compared to 7. It's not just Windows 7 with a new UI.

You can switch from metro into normal screen in win 8. Here is how to  http://blogs.msdn.com/b/zxue/archive/2012/03/07/win8-howto-1-switch-between-metro-ui-and-desktop.aspx
The most difficult thing human will ever face is the decision. Not because we don't know what that decision will bring. It is the responsible that we have to take for the result of that decision we make.

I think it's gonna be crap for most users. Since most users don't go on reading tech blogs or even MSDN itself. So, they won't know how to disable it or even how to fully benefit the new features.

In this post: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/zxue/archive/2012/03/07/win8-howto-1-switch-between-metro-ui-and-desktop.aspx
It shows that hotkeys help a lot and guess what most users don't even know how to use hotkeys. The most hotkeys they use is probably just CTRL + C, CTRL + V and CTRL + Z.

As for me, I like it.
