The movie I watched today.
It was nice, story was about Credit Card fraud. Technical side might not have been true, though I've read about those things they did. Only thing I did not hear was that it was possible what they were doing.

I finished, it I thought it was pretty good. I do like my British films, though unfortunately the torrent you linked didn't have very loud audio, so there were some parts that were hard to hear even with the volume on the highest. The credit card scam was pretty cool, I know you can buy those read/write machines for a few hundred dollars online. I think it would be cool to have, but not really worth the money unless you are doing something illegal with it, another thing to think about is these days you can grab an RFID reader, which I think is also only a few hundred dollars online, and walk through crowds and see if you can pick up credit card numbers from the RFID chip.

You can build RFID scanner for less than $50.

Wow, I didn't know that. Though I have only ever looked up finished scanners, I'll have to read up more about this. Thanks for the info.

You don't need the full dev board. You can use the Arduino bootloader+IDE with a ATMega328 or other ATMega chips. Can build a ISP programmer from scrap parts, and build the RFID coil by hand. With passive parts, around $20 or so, pending on your scavenging ability.


There are plenty of other reads online about building an RFID reader.
Hell, I bet you could do this on an ATTiny8* or something.

I always wondered to get this one. My friend has it and lent me to play with it for a while, though the drivers it came with sucked and most of the time I spent fixing the shit.

You can very well go that route, but dumping data from the cards is just the first hurdle. Most higher level (important stuff) is encrypted and requires some kind of "hand-shake" or something. There will be more software hacking involved in getting the stuff you want. But google shall supply. I'm sure there are some DefCon lectures on it or something.
