Scumbag ubuntu 12
« on: July 11, 2012, 04:08:30 pm »
I was learning bash and everything was going fine(NOTE I AM DUAL BOOTING UBUNTU AND WINDOWS 7 ON A 150 GB HARD DISK) , things were going fine but days back when I  boot to ubuntu through the boot menu it started giving some black screen saying GRUB VERSION (heading) and a paragraph with something TAB FOR SINGLE COMMAND LINE ALLOWED and whatever
on pressing tab it gives a list of available commands like normal_exit,  continue and others
I tried all of em but cant get through this black screen , its seriously a pain I have google it and tried to do everything I could but cant just get to the ubuntu desktop/login screen , some people suggested me of installing some repairing software thru terminal but I CANT GET TO THE DAMN TERMINAL

Seems to me your GRUB is done for. Boot up an ubuntu live CD and install GRUB from there.

^^^What he said. Have you installed updates recently? It is possible that perhaps you updated the kernel and screwed something up. Things should be fine if you reinstall the GRUB

Yes, this is a bootloader issue. Reinstalling GRUB from a live cd will more than likely fix your issue.

It could have been Ubuntu's fault, but he needs to check the bootloader at this point, not the OS. If reinstalling GRUB doesn't work, I hope he did back-ups or doesn't have data to loose.

It could have been windows fault too since he is dual booting. I know I tried the dual-boot stuff on my wife's laptop, and windows didn't like GRUB.

I've never had issues dual booting windows with any linux. The GRUB just wipes out the MBR so there is never any problems there, at least that I've encountered. However I disagree with Lionofgod. It can be ubuntu's fault. Any thing that does anything automatically can be at fault.

On a side note, I noticed that when you put a WindowsXP cd in and load the setup, it overwrites the bootloader with a Windows one lol! WHY WINDOWS, WHY!!

Is that so? How dastardly. I've never had a windows 7 cd do that to me.
