Ubuntu 12.04

Since ubuntu stop release netbook edition, so if i install ubuntu 12.04 into my sony pcg 4t4p, will it faster than windows xp? There is it spec:  http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/laptops/laptops/sony/auction-248824511.htm

Linux is going to run faster than Windows regardless because of how it operates. Ubuntu is  bloated though, so I will suggest Mint instead.

But, if it is hardcore speed that your after something like Arch or Puppy is what you want. Be warned however, something like Arch is not kind to noobs.

Yup, but i also need user friendly environment. But why you suggest Mint over ubuntu?

Both Ubuntu and default Mint are bloated. Ubuntu is not much faster then Windows 7.
If you want real speed increase, you should install a very minimalistic linux distro. Something with a lightweight Desktop environment or no DE at all. LXDE is an example of a lightweight DE. Or you can drop the DE all together and just use OpenBox. CrunchBang is a nice lightweight distro.
If you are not willing to spend time to configure it then of course just go with something easy and bulky like ubuntu.

If I feel lazy to configure a very lightweight distro, I just install Xubuntu or Mint with xfce. Does the job.

Compared, default Ubuntu vs Mint, Mint has less. bloat. But since both are Debian based, why not go core Debian.

I do fully agree with a min install which is why Arch keeps coming to mind.

I will endlessly advocate Arch. Be prepared to spend alot of time on simple problems though. I'd also be one to advocate no WM. Xfce is not much lighter than others....unless your talking KDE or Gnome. With those you might as well use Windows.

Hint: Openbox/Fluxbox
