DDoS
« on: October 05, 2012, 01:48:38 am »
this is really a question.
Why tha f*** does hackers use this?
Is it so it will make so much noise that the personals wont notice when they try breaking in to the system?
or is lame as it sounds its only used to take down websites for a few hours?

I mean i get that people wants to protest some times and apperantly this is the way "geeks" do it.
hacktevists wants the information to be free so they ddos a site so the information on that site is beeing controlled...

please try to explain

Well, HACKERS don't lol. That's really what it comes down to. In the beginning, yes it was a hacker tool, but now with the way networks and IDS's are set up. Your absolutely right, it generates way to much noise. It doesn't really allow you to "break in" as well as other stealthier attacks, and really all it's good for is taking down a site to "protest" whatever it is your protesting.
DDOS == the lose

It hasn't always been this way, and this is an over simplified explanation, but that's the general state of things now haha.

well, DDOS sends many http requests or in other words flood them, but recently websites with high end cache controls dump the SESSID immediately that's why it's not very useful really XD  :-X  in my opinion, DDOS are tools to distract the server. they distract them to redirect their attention so other attacks can penetrate :)  :o

A server is not a patrol guard. DDoS does not take its attention so you can hack your way in. DDoS is only for unskilled idiots that can't do anything else. It's not hacking, because it only puts down a server... what is the fucking point in that?  Of course it doesn't always work, but sure as hell raise the use of resources (CPU power).

You know,

In Holland the whole trainsystem, the airport, ideal and other stuff are attacked in one month all with ddos. So it actually still works!

Just wanted to point out that a number of older tools are also no longer used like nmap. While it can still be used, and is good to learn for the knowledge  it really isnt used in actual hacks any more because better ways(or at least faster ways) have come about.

It has its uses as a diversionary tactic if it's properly timed, but for the most part it seems to be used as a cop out attack.

Correct that is its sole use in Anon now anyway, the "Legion" skiddies all launch a DoS attack and the rest of Anon's higher ranks use the diversion to attack a site with less chance of being caught, other words that apply to the Legion are "Lemmings" and "CannonFodder" both of which happened to be very enjoyable games back on the Amiga500 ^^

It's some sort of attack, it's just that its purpose is not breaking in.

This was answered months ago.
I hate the idea of ddos, as daemon and otgers said this is a skiddie way nowdays. It was big and exciting back in the day when a 16 year old made it for the first time and later went to prison for it. But now grow up please.  Thats my opinion,  grow some balls and do it like a man.

This thread is answered and should be closed.

@relax you can lock the thread since you started it

if i was a skiddie in Anon, just hacked a server and left a rootkit or backdoor that needed restarting the server, i would go for a DDOS, Haha.
thats is so lame since there a better ways to do it without needing to restart the server. Thats why i say DDOS is not cool at all.
Shame to those who use it.
If you can't explain it to a 6 year old, you don't understand it yourself.

I did not know I could lock without at least mod privileges.

Now I know
