Any Musicians?

Hey everyone. So I wanted to make a topic about music. Any musicians on the forum? Does anyone play any instruments?

If so, what do you play, how long have you been playing? What type of music do you like to play? How often do you practice? 

All answers welcome 

I play piano. I learn something new everyday, constantly practicing

I enjoy anything from Classical to Rock music.

I REALLY love the blues and jazz, so I end up playing them the most.  I also am a part of a choir too so I guess you can say that I play the voice too

Guitar for 4 years, bass guitar for 3, flute for 7, drums for 2 or 3, piano, well, i just play around with piano, but i can play piano..i have my own recording studio that i've pieced together over the years. I've been in a couple bands with one of the other members of this forum (Used Bandaid)

Thanks for the replies. It's good to see some varying interests. Blues music and Jazz styles are wonderful to play and listen to as well 

I figured we'd have more guitar players. Maybe something about computing and guitars just seem to mix well    I used to play guitar, familiar with TAB and chords mainly, but moved further away from it over the years. As for piano, I play from the sheet music, take lessons for classical training, and try to always enjoy the process as much as I can.

My main passion has always been music/piano with computing being in close league. I always kept up my research and learning when it came to hacking/cracking/computing. I'm venturing deeper into computing now and hoping to gather even deeper knowledge and acknowledgement in the world of hacking and computers

That's wonderful. I like the functionality of a recording studio. Personally I like using VST's and MIDI when recording for piano. Helps provide a variety of wonderful sounds and manipulations to the music that can only be obtained digitally But I'm a big fan of the grand/acoustic piano's, even though there are excellent VST's that simulate your concert grand Steinway piano, I find nothing compares to the quality and sound of a genuine acoustic.

Guitar for the past 2 yeard, of which I've spent maybe a grand total of 2 months practicing hahaha. I love the way it sounds, I love cranking some of my favorite tunes out on it with the distortion maxed out!!!
I like playing older metal, hard rock, newer stuff like breaking benjamin and chevelle, and just about any of the good rock and roll songs all the way back to clapton and hendrix. I only know maybe 4 songs all the way through tho haha, 2 metallica a breaking benjamin and an Evanescence...

I also enjoy writing lyrics for both rap and guitar, but I feel like all the lyrics I mean to go with a guitar end up coming out as raps...

I've played bass for 4 years, trumpet for 6, and I recently took up piano about 6 months ago, but I dunno if you'd count that haha.  I usually practice for like half an hour before bed every night.  Really, I'll play just about anything except country.

I play a variety of different pieces. I like a lot of different styles from Rock/Pop/Classical/Blues/Jazz. Some artists I like include, Elton John, Yann Tiersen, Hans Zimmer, Ludovico Einaudi, Boccelli, Enya, David Nevue, Clint Mansell.

I also like a lot of abstract movie theme's and solo piano arrangements 

Some classic rock bands include Yes, Peter Gabriel, Rush, Pink Floyd, Guns N Roses, Hendrix, Clapton

For classical I like Chopin, Beethoven, Yanni, Rachmaninoff, Mozart

If were talking guitar rock music I'd have to say Hendrix and Clapton and Pink Floyd are my favorites.

I have endless amounts (GB'S upon GB's) of sheet music from guitar tab to band scores to PVG songbooks and sheets form a variety of composers. Too bad we don't have a music section for sharing sheets like the Ebooks section

I really like the trumpet. I started out on trumpet and violin in grade school. Didn't stick with it though. I switched over to guitar and eventually ended up serious about the piano and keeping the guitar around for fun

Damn I always wanted to play the violin.  Trumpet's pretty fun, but I guess it's just not the same as it used to be for me.  There's a crappy piece of shit keyboard in my house that I play around on in my spare time, but hell, it's better than nothing, right?  Even so, playing the piano feels amazing.  If the piano didn't suck so much, I could sit for hours learning songs on it (I've already done that a few times actually).  Not to mention that it makes me appreciate decent pianos that much more.

I must say violin is a lovely instrument  But I decided to go the piano route because of the dynamics and range of the music. Your capable of so much on a piano. A wide variety of styles and so many different ways to articulate a piece on a keyboard. I love the feel of authentic concert grand pianos. The touch and response of the keys feels like quality - when compared to lower grade keyboards. But digital's are getting even better now. With all the ways you can plug up your digital piano to a DAW's system on your computer. All the different plug-ins, virtual instruments, and midi functions you can use in conjunction with the digital keyboard, plus the upgraded response and electronics built into some higher end machines. Digital's are like the new age piano with so many advanced functions characteristics that make them very interesting to work with.

Personally I've been thinking of switching over to a Apple laptop mainly for the purpose of recording music. From what I've read, its a favored environment over a PC and capable of so much more functionality when it comes to audio and music recording.

VST's, DAW's, MIDI, Step Sequencers - can be very strange and foreign when you first start working with it all. It's like information overload straight from the start.   But it gets simple as time goes on and you start to get accustomed to it.

I'm much more into microphones for genuine quality recordings. Midi is more for play and manipulation. Adding tracks, adding instruments, changing pitches, and creating a master work. I use Steinberg Cubase. I've used FL Studio and I also have copies of other software like Synthogy Ivory and Cakewalk Sonar by Roland. I found FL is more for beats making which is why I stick with Cubase

If you happen to have an IPhone there is even an FL Studio app you can download for your phone. If anyone has a jailbroken device, I have the .IPA file for FL Studio installed on my device. I can extract it and attach it here if anyone is interested. Just leave a message and I can upload it for you guys.

Eminem listens to Metallica when looking for inspiration to write raps. Likewise, if I ever try to write lyrics that.....aren't rap, I find that rap gets my creative gismos working

I've got a friend that works with Cubase quite a bit, and he's told me about all the things it can do and stuff, but I haven't had the time yet to sit down and look for a decent crack. I'd love to get my hands on it though.
