scripting language?

So guys is the knowledge of at least one scripting language eg. python, a necesity like if you don't know a scripting language will your abillities be significantly less hacking wise then some one with scripting knowledge?

 might sound like a dumb question but I am truthfully unsure. please help

Yes is a must i believe to think as a programmer first.
I start learning now python,and know already to code some nice things with AutoIt
Codeacademy   is a nice place to start with python in my opinion.

You are never going to be a good hacker without the knowledge of programming and scripting languages. When you are going to use only ready made softwares and would depend on them for hacking anything then your functionality would be limited upto the functionality of the software. When you are not going to use your brain , just doing the copy paste thing, then how can you even think of being a good hacker.

Good reply geXXos, +1. I'd say a scripting language is necessary, python would be a GREAT first language, but I'm going to start with Delphi because I don't really need a language and Delphi seems like one that would disappear soon..

Well, I'm not sure. Scripts can be pretty useful... but a necessity? However, in my opinion, when you choose a language, you should pick the ones of those around you, then expand later on. I'm not saying close the box, but if your using the same language as many you communicate with, it's easier to learn and share ideas. Python is definitely one of those popular languages, so I think it's important to use.
I'm not saying you have to learn popular languages. but that's my preference.

I love scripting languages, started off with batch, then VBS and BASH. Messed around with AutoIt a little as well

But as mentioned go for it, a scripting language is a good place to start coding. Just remember its a Scripting language and NOT a coding language. Don't think you're super elite when you can create a quick script

Right, I guess Python is a coding language right? Completely forgot about the difference for a minute..
