Quickie question
« on: November 15, 2012, 11:10:36 pm »
I did a quick google and didn't immediately find an answer, so I'm asking you guys in hopes of an answer for when I come home because I'm on some heavy time restraints the next 3 days.

I've got a laptop (Dell N7010) that I want to sell to my friend. It's about 2 years old, Windows 7 SP1. Basically, I want to completely restore it to factory condition (meaning delete all my data and everything) WITHOUT having to partition the harddrive and reinstall windows manually. I have the capability to do all of that, but I'd rather save time and a license key by just resetting it to its factory state.

check if theres a hidden partition on computer with restore partition if u do its usually f9-f12 but can be any f key or the esc, check the boot options at boot if any, else try the f keys.
or if you have restore cd.

Go to control panel>system and services>administrative tools>computer management then click on the part that says disk management. That will tell you if you have a recovery partition or not.

lol if I bought that laptop from you I would use some recovery software :P. Stop being lazy dban the hard drive and reload windows. There should also be a serial on the bottom of the laptop, if so let me know what version of win 7 it is (most likely Home Basic or Premium) and I will give you an ISO so you can load it fresh. Trust me you want a fresh install anyways without bloat. Plus you can throw applications on there and charge more for it

Ok, wipe and repartition it is.. I can find ISOs but I'd much rather one from you, I'd expect it to be complete and no BS. It's Home Premium, and I already gave the guy a price but I'll still ask about any pre-loaded programs. He might want me to crack Cu-Bass for him, I'll have to learn how to do that -.-. Actually, I have the full installation disc around here somewhere, I could just use that right?

EDIT: It's a 64-bit system, I have the disc for that, but do you think you could send me a 32-bit Win7 Professional ISO? I've got some old computers with XP and I need 7 on them for various reasons. Home premium or something else would be fine too, just no starter edition lol

Just torrent for it. It isn't very hard  :P I suppose I could post my ISO but it is a 64bit as well. As for any preloaded programs, you just go to the support website for his computer and download them - as well as drivers because if you do a fresh install with an ISO you won't have any internet access from the get-go.

Yeah first thing I'll have to do is get drivers for the GPU and wireless card so I don't fuck that up immediately. I would have already got a torrent, but I'm on a new laptop (hence me selling the other) and haven't gotten all my programs installed yet. Music programs first, games, random apps, hacking programs. So far all I have done is a few games and IMGBurn. I'm waiting till my copy of Win8 gets here (tomorrow) before I install any more. And don't bash on getting Win8, I'm only doing it because I don't have to pay for it.

I'm pretty blazed myself right now, doing homework and shit.

Windows 8 is a pile of shit! Especially on a desktop computer, metroui is FUCKING retarded. Don't ever install windows 8, its a pile of nasty steaming donkey shit. Stick with 7 I even give ddl links to ms isos as well as 3 different activators (although kj activator can activate windows 8 and enterprise isos 32bit and 64bit)

Like I said, the ONLY reason I'm doing it is because its free and I know that in about 4 or 5 months it will probably have a boost of 3-5 FPS on games. This is my gaming laptop lol. But YES, it is a pile of shit and ALWAYS will be because its WINBLOWS, but it JUST came out and will be improved. think positive :D

Logical enough, but you forgot to consider that Microsoft actually released Win7 as a beta to Win8. They decided to release a simplified version of Win8 and started selling it so they can collect their bug and error data and patch everything they can before they release this "mind-blowing" user interface. But I'm not 100% sure, you could be right, but I'm pretty sure that's the case. I also have a feeling that Vista was a beta to Win7 though, it was absolutely terrible..

If I were to make my own OS though, it would probably be based on XP, but probably with a linux kernel if that's possible.

EDIT: Finally able to download a few of those files and look at them, looks like this'll be a breeze:3 The computer teacher at school wants me to put Win7 on a few old computers at the school so we can use them temporarily, but he didn't know how he would get the license keys so I told him I'll handle that, so I'll be using this pretty hard for a little bit after I reinstall that laptop:D

EDIT 2: I'm having an issue with Win7 Loader eXtreme Edition, everytime I extract the RAR and go into the folder, an application file called "w7lxe" disappears right in front of my eyes O.o, and its the only application file in there so I'm sure I need it

Already got it working and the laptop "sold" (waiting for the money still), KJ didn't work right away (I probably messed up somewhere) but we put in the serial number that came with the laptop for the 5th time and it magically worked.

I've been using win8 for about a month now and I gotta say, I really like it. Can't tell you exactly why but it's great..haven't found a single issue yet, except that they dropped support for watching DVD movies, but I think it'll work if I get realplayer or something similar.
