Q. Where do you see hacking in ten years?
« on: January 06, 2013, 04:36:57 am »
Hi All,

Where do you personally see the field of hacking in ten years? Meaning, what methods for exploitation will be most popular? I personally think Web Application Hacking isn't going anywhere - thus I am learning all I can about it. The goal of this question is to learn what I should be learning now - for the future. Thanks!

As long as there is internet, there will be exploitation. Starting where we are now will lead you to where it's going.

I think there will be increased use of social engineering as general knowledge and implementation of web and network security increases.

Actually that seems far too optimistic/pessimistic (depending on POV), since people never really do appear to learn, but it's possible.

10 Years huh, well i belive  that it depends on the new securety systems that will be invented and put to use. And i agree with vezzy, securety will become stronger so if we cant hack through systems we must hack through the users . But as long as there will be securety Development we will get to learn new stuff.

No matter what anybody says, it will be almost exactly the same as it is today, only the security will be much higher and the "hacks" will be much more powerful. I don't believe there will be any kind of revolution where hackers all the sudden are the most powerful beings alive and take over the world.

Very true, were just a minority unfortunately. It tkes the mind of an inventor, a thinker, to be a hacker and most people just arent hardwired that way.

As for where i see it, its all in the wireless baby. Wireless is where the world is headed, and if you want to keep up with, or jump ahead of the curve, you need to understand wireless at a hardware level. And by that i mean frequencies and stuff as well as routers etc. Theres frequencies put there we havent even touched yet, i mean tesla found the frequency of the earth and caused an earthquake he also was able to transmit power wirelessly. Unfortunately he kept the majority of those notes in his head so we have no idea how he pulled it off. But id say completely wireless is where were headed, though itll take lomger than 10 years

As long as there is internet, there will be exploitation. Starting where we are now will lead you to where it's going.

This. Even if it goes all to web exploits and all, you really need to know where it comes from. Where it started, where it went, and where it is going. Just like history class, if it gets that way. If you know really how it worked from the flip-flop/NAND level you will make more money than anyone in the biz.

I imagine there will still be the basics, as mentioned if there is internet there will be exploit. Not even necessarily an internet, just a network of computer communicating. Granted in 10 years I imagine we will have pretty large technological advancement, which could be anything from a handheld ipod sized device that can crack a password in minutes, or maybe holograms will catch on and we will have a lot of fun with those.... It all boils down to the very definition of a hacker:

Average person: "look what This does!"

Hacker: "Yes, but what can I make it to do to reach its full potential."

It's not about what it does. It's about what it can do.

You mentioning holograms made me remember my dreams I had a few months back that I had of possibly creating a 100% virtual reality gaming environment, much like the anime Sword Art Online (BEST ANIME EVER BTW). After a bit of googling, a couple years ago a man created a device that has become the first step in creating such an environment. With the rate that technology has been advancing the past 15 years, I would expect that in the next 10 to 15 years a project similar to Sword Art Online will be completed or near completion.

Oh and there is something i want to add, in the future only computer and website, servers wont be the main targets to hack. We will be learning how to hack systems that will manage  house securety, trafic management, etc. there will be robots fighting in future wars, so hackers may even join the war by hacking into the bots that will be used insted of solders. Hackers will be the bigest criminals and they will be the bigest heroes. Becaus almost every thing will be managed by verus kindes of systems .and hackers will try to take full advantage of that.
