Gettin me some internet
« on: March 08, 2013, 10:16:03 pm »
So I very recently moved into my new home. I'm so fucking glad to be done living with bipolar people and/or/and dumbass asshole roomates. Just me my animals and my girlfriend. How awesome.

Now there's some things I need to get set up such as internet(I'm writing this from a library computer). I was curious about what kind of ISP you guys prefer. Needless to say, if you have shitty internet then don't post in this thread. I'm willing to spend up to 50 American a month and that's about it. I don't need TV or anything. Just some good old wifi.

So? Let's hear it.

I have DSL provided by a local company (SRT), it's good internet but it's also rated about twice as fast as it really is. We are paying roughly $50 USD (including our phone) for "32mb/s - 10mb/s" (download-upload), but download speed testers have never rated me above 17mb/s - 900kb/s. So I'd avoid DSL

I really don't like comcast. Man, I was hoping to get more feedback on this. I currently can only sign on every few days when I get a chance to go to Panera or somewhere  :P

I'm not an expert in this but I would say go with any ISP that provides high speed internet (fiber optics).

:/

Well I think I've decided on AT&T Max Uverse internet. It's fiber optic, it's just that I hear a lot of shit about how bad AT&T customer service is...

Changed me mind, I think I'm going with Comcast Xfinity. The deal I'm looking at gives me 20mbps downspeed for like 30 bucks a month. Not that it will give me the complete 20mbps downspeed but whatever. I'm sick of going to Panera for internet.

30MB on DSL? Are you on VDSL/bonded or something? That or have to be FIOS instead of DSL cause max on ADSL is like 7MB. And that's if the CO is in your front yard with no bridge taps or anything.

@lucid, go with what ever cable provider is in your area. Cable will be the most reliable in terms of up time and speed. DSL is shit and fiber optic will have a lot a lot of downtime. Cable all the way.
