Keep windows and install a minimal distro like debian, arch or Gentoo in a VM and use Cygwin mintty/ssh to access it. Add tmux and you're good to go.

Unless you actually want a Linux desktop, I always preferred windows for general usage.
I do the same and using Debian Mint 13 Maya now.:)

That way you never really learn but thats just my opinion.
How would a GNOME or even xmonad desktop help you learn? Configuring desktop applications and Xorg has nothing to do with using GNU/Linux as a working environment.

You may consider using Linux for: reading docs, developing programs, administrating that system. You can do all this shit through SSH.

Because managing linux as a base system and especially the more "hardcore" distros is a daily learning routine.
Besides from that Im sick and tired of the whole microsoft garbage I will never again put my trust in their code.
They have proven them selves to fail and its a matter of time before the monopoly will come to a crash.
I could rant about this another hour but thats a waste of time.

base system
can't be done through SSH? I wouldn't call it base.
"hardcore" distros
LFS? what the fuck are you talking about? yeah a script is h4rdc0r3Z.

daily learning routine
nothing daily about, learning to use a system is just like learning a programming language. There's no constant about it, you don't give up all other systems for the sake of this one.

I hate microsoft

I would agree with you but not in this case. There is nothing wrong about discussing a topic based on facts. This has only been swear words and insulting. Nothing informative or educational. If someone is not able to press one's point without starting a flame war (and I think that was the only reason why xzid replied here) he shouldn't post at all. Just my two cents.

Cheers,
RBA

Has nothing to do with censorship, in fact I discussed the matter with other mod's before taking any action.I dont mind to disagree nor have a discussion, however insults and abusive language will not be tolerated.

I don't think it makes sense to reply again as you will just take the parts you want and ignore the context but I will do it anyways. I can only speak for myself and in my opinion to make this a serious and informative forum these kind of posts are contra-productive. We have boards where you can talk random bullshit and insult each other if thats what you want (and there is an irc channel where we do it the whole day  :) ). If thats not enough and someone wants a whole forum like this hackforums would be an option. To sum it up: a post should be related to the topic and provide informations others can learn from. As this one is going of topic and the op isn't even around anymore it should be closed.

I agree with proxx and RBA, although what xzid said is not entirely wrong, there's no need for flaming and personal insults.

I posted because context was deleted.

Listen, I don't give a shit about xzid. But the way he was censored for simple bullshit is worse than trolling. You can ignore trolls.

Do you mean the vague rules that are open to interpretation?

I suppose this is my "outro"  :'(

I think this is getting way off-topic. OP's account was deleted anyway, so this should be closed.
