IRC Client?
« on: March 14, 2013, 05:04:38 pm »
I need a good, reliable IRC client. At first I used HydroIRC, and then it was said that X-Chat is better. I had X-Chat but apparently I had a 30-day free trial and I'm not going to pay for it.

What do you guys recommend? Or even better, does anybody have a cracked X-Chat that I can download?

If your XChat version is a 30-day trial, you must be using Windows. Look at mIRC (after some time it just displays a nag, which you can remove...). Or compile XChat from source, which I have never done.

Yes I'm using windows currently. I'm in the process of moving and such so I don't have any of my other 4 systems running (they have BT5R3, Ubuntu, Mac OSx, and the other I use for random harddrives I find).

I'll look at mIRC tonight.

Since Xchat for linux is free and unlimited, while on Win you have to pay for it after 30 days trial,  i guess you are looking for a Windows client.
I found a very stable alternative to Xchat after trying more than 10 clients, but in the end i found HexChat -> http://hexchat.org/
It has the same interface and the same options of Xchat, and never crashed or else, the best Xchat-like client i found for Win.
Give it a try.

P.S. If I'm right now mIrc too has a trial period befor start paying...
Bye

Use an unofficial build of xchat. I.e.: http://www.silverex.org/features/

Great idea, I'll try that when I get home.

Since Xchat for linux is free and unlimited

Good to know, I'll download it and have it ready for my Ubuntu system.

If you want a feedback for Xchat-2 for Windows suggested by Deque (it was the first client I tried), it crashed to me multiple times in a day... moreover it's not mantained since 2009.

Kulver just pm'd me 2 versions of X-Chat with patches. I usually spoof my own IP so I don't need it to be built in.

@Rev, I've never had any version of X-Chat crash on me..

with spoofing the IP... you can register your nickname and set a vhost, if you're THAT paranoid.

No client can do this.  You can do proxies and so on but the irc network is configured to block as many of those as possible so...... if you're really that paranoid, get a vhost in #vhost? and I mean it does hide your ip anyways and only net staff can see it.  It replaces it with evilzone-xxxxx.name.tld for instance.
