Proj3ct Pho3nix

Should EvilXP Rise from the Ashes?

Ok, I'm a little hesitant because of the last attempt on this, and I really am willing to try it again. However I would like the communities effort. I will need a lot of help and REALLY dedicated people. I still have the IRC channel registered and would really like to make this a reality, but I do need the people to be involved. If this turns into a One Man Show, I will drop the project. But if there are people REALLY willing to put forth We can get started on EvilXP dubbed "Project Pho3nix"

Why is it called "Proj3ct Pho3nix"?

To be honest is has nothing to do with my User Name, but more of a motif as this project has come and gone, but it can be reborn, which is the mythology behind a phoenix. Now this will also be the Motif of the project so it will have orange and red designs and themes.

What would need to be done?
I would start from scratch and build the basic structure

Basic Structure:
  • Windows XP SP3 Base
  • Slipstreamed Essentials
  • Slipstreamed Drivers

Applications:
Believe it or not I still have the application list developed and then I will create a WPI since not everyone can agree on the applications

The final step after a solid system and a good working WPI the final stages are design. This is where I need the most help. If we can get a good working design with a Phoenix motif for both the OS and WPI we can finally release EvilXP - Proj3ct Pho3nix.

So whose with me?

[09:27] (+lenoch) oh no that's voluntary
[09:27] (+lenoch) sorry

I'm kinda against the 'Hacker OS' idea because i think linux owns windows when it comes to hacking related tasks.

If it's going to be a 'Hacker OS' then we should do it with Linux.

What kind of system are you thinking of?

TBH, I would love to see a EvilNix instead. I have gained alot of experience with Linux since you started this EvilXP idea. We might be able to pull it off, idk. Comments plox. Non the less, I would love to see a EvilOS in general :P

I know Linux would be MUCH better but to be honest I have no idea where to begin. I have done a little research as far as Linux goes and I DO know how to add and removed e programs and scripts from backtrack, but I wouldn't know how to skin it. I would need more help with the development of it but I think if we do work together and use backtrack as a base I think it could be something really worth downloading

Nah. XP is getting old. I think custom OSes should start going toward Windows 7 instead of sticking so much with XP. I know everyone loves XP, I do too, but it's becoming deprecated.

I wouldn't bother trying with Linux. There are already a few hacking distros like Backtrack and WeakNet, we'd be more productive contributing to one of those rather than starting another offshoot of an offshoot.

I'd love to contribute to this once again, as I did last time :P  iTpHo3NiX, I still have stuff I had made for EvilXP, like custom sounds and WPI and bootscreen that I put together :P

and I should agree with FuyuKitsune. There are numerous distros for pentesting purposes made with Linux, so it is pointless to make another one when there are few way better then we would make. If the distro would be made for a regular user with security enchantments then it would be cool.

So my final vote would be to go for XP as it is one of the best in Windows series (still hate windows though :| ) and I haven't heard of any pentesting distros made from windows. Probably because it would suck (to change MAC on windows you need to screw with registry and reboot the computer. Not very convenient) :P but we could try :D

I know how to fully customize windows xp(A-Z). If u want i can stand with u! and go for it. It will b very good to having an windows based os for the purpose of hacking. Like u said, Xp will be the best one. I know many of our forum members would not be agree me. But I still believe XP is the best os the microsoft ever made.

Ok, well we'll see what we're going to be doing exactly.

@FuyuKitsune
I think you don't have faith in our community. We CAN make something better then backtrack. It will take time and we would need some help. But you have to realize this isn't going to be some mainstream OS like backtrack its going to be one for our COMMUNITY.

If we do make a linux distro, I don't think we should start development of it until May comes around when they release BT5 with open source as they are planning to do. With this we can really tweak, add, remove, etc. etc. and make it a great EvilZone themed custom modded BT5

If i would attempt a Linux based live cd i would use the following resources

http://blahonga2.yanson.org/howtos/livecd/
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook

Gentoo probably the best bet as the genkernel can prob run on any hardware. and you build it from scratch. though if you don't like manuals don't try gentoo.

http://www.linux-live.org/
should work on any linux to create a live cd

If it's going to be a 'Hacker OS' then we should do it with Linux.

It's called BT...
I know we all know it, but that's the idea of making a Hacker Windows, because for linux there's already nUbuntu, NodeZero, BackTrack and I honestly doubt we all together do better.
So a windows hacking version OS makes much more sense, but then, it's winblowz...
I like the idea, would simplify me the work every time I format some PC to re-install every single program, but we gotta think that linux is better, it just is.
Thanks for reading,
