Totally.

Awesome sucks because Lua. Awesome is awesome because everything else. Yeah I don't really have a problem with theme.lua. But once we start talking about awful and vicious and wibox and blah blah my head starts to spin just a little bit.

I know exactly what you mean, after playing with that stuff a little I realize I dont actually use much of it after all.
Its good to see its a little more 21st cent than DWM and thats why I switched, but my god LUA.
Can we stop bitching about LUA now, I hate lua so much.. and this syntax is like my mexican immigrant uncle from uzbekistan...
nvm.

But awesome is quite awesome and blazingly fast.
If you fancy some transparancy and that kinda stuff I suggest you take a look at 'compton'
Works rather well with awesome.
I also thought about switching to i3, I know some that are very happy about it.

There are some local linux users here that swear by i3. I haven't used it, but from what they say, it's pretty good.

Awesome seems like a good tiler to use if you are transitioning, because it can function as a non-tiler if need be.

Haven't posted an update for some time too. Finally got around looking for a gtk-theme. awn doesn't fully function any more since a recent glib update sadly...

ArchBang cause the install is a bit quicker since I re-installed a few times trying to get the Windows partition working and was too lazy to move around partitions. I'm thinking about doing like Lucid and giving Slack a go. But probably wont anytime soon since I got a few things going here in Arch.

+cookie for ArchBang.

It used to be pure Arch before the Windows fiasco happened. The only thing I didn't and don't like about ArchBang is the auto-generated openbox menu, I like it static not dynamic, but I can change it, so no `real` harm done.

PS awesomeWM is awesome, but the language it used, LUA was not so.....
I hate LUA too.... but no choice. Me usually download other's configs and theme
cause I am lazy to write one myself.

ArchBang cause the install is a bit quicker since I re-installed a few times trying to get the Windows partition working and was too lazy to move around partitions. I'm thinking about doing like Lucid and giving Slack a go. But probably wont anytime soon since I got a few things going here in Arch.
1. Love the archy terminal

2. Slack is definitely worth the experience. It isn't prone to breaking like arch, the install is simple as fuck, and overall it's relatively easy without taking away from the "behind the scenes" like Ubuntu does. However, I do really miss rolling release, as well as auto-dependency resolution with pacman--although compiling everything yourself isn't as big of a hassle as people make it sound--plus I also have a love for a bare system so I can install everything myself(Slack 14 has 7.3 gb preinstalled). Which is why I know for sure that I'm going to go back to Arch at some point, once I feel I've gained more linux/unix experience using slackware.

3. Never tried Archbang. Felt like cheating. Not that I'm judging mind you..

1. Thanks, it came with ArchBang.

2. I'll probably give it a go when I get a new computer. Since using pacman, I feel every package manager should move to something similar. Also, the rolling releases are a huge plus. The only time Arch ever broke on me is when they updated fs structure.

3. For people new to Arch I agree it's kinda cheating. But I can't count how many times I've installed plain arch, even just to really understand linux more and all. So moving to ArchBang for me is more like buying a bicycle instead of all the parts and building one by hand.

Even with ArchBang there are a lot of post install stuff to do.

We might be drifting off a little but  I agree , I have archbang installed on some not important machine because I needed a quicky install.
Indeed pacman is one of the few package managers I really like, its KISS and especially compared to aptitude for example.

Slackware is even more KISS as far as package management goes. Don't get me wrong I definitely love pacman  ;)
