What makes Linux superior to Windows?
hundreds of little things, and some of the bigger ones off the top of my head:
- very few viruses and malware in relation to Windows.
- great memory management and fewer system crashes in relation to Windows. (I have a little linux server in my room that has been running for about 4 months without a restart or a crash)
- runs on much more different hardware then windows.
- It is free as in beer
- it is free (the code is opensource and you can take it and modify it)
- MUCH better community. Any answer is answered in a few mins.
- So many different flavours (distros) for everyone depending on their experience, requirements and intended use.
- It is VERY configurable. You can literally tweak every single option and setting. Windows is not nearly as configurable.
- You can choose between dozens of desktop environments / window managers. In windows you just have one option.
- LiveCD/USB : you can take the os with you anywhere.
- Multiple desktops.
- Quicker bug and security fixes.
- Has a lot more drivers included then windows. For example, when I installed win on my laptop, I had to manually find wifi, webcam and sound drivers, but with linux it worked out of the box.
- Software repos: this makes it very easy to download software while knowing that it has almost no chance of having malware.
- much more secure kernel.
I could go on, but I think I already made my point.
However, Windows does have it's uses so I am not saying it should not be used.
