It would be an awfully large waste of space if we are alone out here.

No, it'll be a blessing... We don't know if the others are hostile.

Im sure it exists.
If the universe is infinite its does for sure.
The universe is so large that the chance it doesnt exist is much smaller than the other way around.

When you really think about it, why would they be hostile? If humans encountered another race, our first instinct (as a whole) would hopefully be to study and learn from them, not destroy them. Of course they aren't humans, maybe some warring clan system (been watching/reading way to much sci fi...), and if in that case, I doubt they would have the technology to actually dent the human population.

Perhaps they are religious... Then we are REALLY screwed.

This. You see, if aliens were to come to Earth, I would expect them to be curious and want to study us, not be hostile. But, as you see in most movies, humans are fighting back against them because they feel threatened. What if we were to go to another planet with intentions of studying them, and we seemed aggressive to them? It's not what our intentions are, it's what our intentions appear to be.

Ok.. A bit of history.

Stone tools.. The first technology we had, were weapons firs, other uses came later.

Fire .. I bet they used it to kill each other and animals before using it to cook.

Any technology, you name it.. Almost everything is made for war.

War.. Makes people desperate, people die but technology increases.

A hunter is always more advanced than the prey..

Any specie that's advanced will either be powerful predator in its origin, or subservient to or weaker than another powerful one.

Now, let's say, they don't need to study us, they just need adna sample to analyze our biology and that's enough for them. They'd just replicate the data, compute and process it.. Then kill us...

You think they'd study or culture? Ha! History is filled with examples of the winners destroying the losing cultures, not the other way round.

they'd rather eliminate an inferior culture or ideology, rather than leave it alone.

Why bother to let a specie rise?

An example..

Why do you kill snakes?..
We would be like animals or playthings to them.
When they can travel light years, they will be sufficiently advanced.

Humans are disgusting in general, others kill for food, we kill for pleasure.

Why do you expect others to be different?

The best, we would become a subservient race.
The worst, we become toys.

If there is something and it is intelligent and knows about us, i would say that It´s biggest sign of intelligence is that they didnt try to contact humans :)

Been waiting to get on my comp to post here, but I'm bbored at work so F it lol

I personally think there is something out there though whether its aliens or alternate dimensions Im not sure.
One view I've always liked is that those other galaxies are in fact alternate dimensions of our own, so each of those stars is in fact just like ours but altered. This means some were formed differently at the creation of the universe so the stars are different and planets altered so life was unable to form or life formed differently. Others are exactly like ours only events and people were altered so perhaps Alexander the great didn't die of illness, or perhaos was.never born. Essentially, there exists one galaxy for every possible outcome of what could've happened in our dimension. So from the big bang and planet creation, to obama winning the last election there also exists dimensions where things turned out the other way instead.

Is it feasible? Maybe, bout as much as anything else is. I just like the probabilities it creates for some mind warping shit. Like for instance, space travel is actually not traveling time and distance.but also requires traveling sideways through time. Hows that for mind blowing?  8)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetary_habitability

1/4 stars CAN have a planet that CAN contain life
there are millions of stars in our galaxy
there are BILLIONS of galaxies in our universe

conclusion: if you dont believe, you are an idiot...

HOWEVER!

we will doubtfully be able to ever contact them... or see them... for the simple reason, that moving at the speed of light (in order to even be able to travel the distance) requires the energy stored in a LOT of suns...
and
if we would move at the speed of light (even at the size of a pea) our mass would become so astronomical, that everything would collapse and we would have black hole!

so we wont see aliens... sadly...

Even the term Aliens can be so broadly defined. But yes, I would say we are not alone. It would seem a bit arrogant to assume we are the only ones.

It amuses me when scientists say aliens need the same living conditions as we do.  Every living thing on this planet has evolved to suit the environment so who is to say that other beings couldn't evolve in totally different living conditions.  Like inhale argon exhale helium etc.
As far as aliens dominating us for being inferior beings I am not convinced. It is true that we used to do this thousands of years ago but as time has progressed we have discovered many ways of settling disputes without war, although not always.  The more advanced we become the more diplomat and civilized in my opinion, I'm sure that aliens with technology to travel billions of miles would have to be far more civilized than us and probably have very little material interest.

Holy shit! That's Bullshit!  :P

Yeaahh.. Life out there sure won't be like on earth... organisms may thrive without water, oxygen .. etc... Maybe even enjoy VERY HIGH or VERY LOW temperatures...

but euuhh..  Argon in >>> Helium out is  ::)

and yet we are not facing a world war because of fear..
There is no "development" in humans that you speak of.
The only reason we all are not fighting is because our fear of dying is greater than urge to dominate.
This will continue because it's human nature to be greedy.

now imagine aliens.. They won't kill us for resource.. No.. They'll either kill us to eliminate future competition or for sport and ego boost.

don't we humans kill "beasts"for fun?
we do because we are the biggest fish of the pond right now. Just let us see when a bigger one comes.

I think that there is a possibility of aliens, but if they do exist it is most likely (knowing how enormous the universe is) that they exist many light years away from us, meaning that it would be impossible to interact with them anyway, making the discussion and debate of weather aliens exist or not pretty much pointless for me.

why do you say so?
there can exist some technology to travel the stars :)
