Didn't like the idea at first, but after actually looking at the boards being blocked I think it is a good idea. People should actually post a bit if they want to have full access to things such as the ebooks and this way people will hopefully become more active. Those complaining about having to do maybe a couple hours work total to gain full access shouldn't be on here. Learning takes time and effort after all, and I think a bit of work is worth access to thousands of dollars worth of information.
"On one hand... you're a total cock.
On the other.. you're an active, loyal, somewhat knowledgeable cock.

I think that's an approval from me, we need the right kinda cock around here."- HTH because cock is good, as long as it's the right kind of cock.

Hello.  I'm Brother,... and I'm a leech....  :-) [step 1]

I totally agree. I joined earlier this year and mainly just for the ebooks section.  Like a lot of people have stated, everyone likes free stuff.  I was a little taken back for the first few sections, but having experience with volunteer organizations, I totally understand how much hard work it can be to set things up, and keep it running.  If people want to reap the benefits they should be part of the cause.  Thanks to all of the guys/gals that keep this board running.  This is my second official post, and I'm working towards earning the prizes at the end of the rainbow.   8)

This has actually caused me to look at some of the other sections that I haven't been in before.  Lot's of good information on here.  I look forward to engaging and learning more.

Ah, so thats why those boards are gone. I thought you, for whatever reason, removed it. Personally I feel like this was unnecessary. You aren't going to have meaningful discussion if 98.5% of the people here are,"noobs/new to this"  and have little to no useful stuff to talk about. Then you get borderline shitposts everywhere.
I asked for nothing, and that's just what I got.

Not quite. They wants books, and we want quality posts. All/most shitposts get removed and they must post quality stuff to get the books.
It's been discussed and answered in the last 3 pages... read up.

That staff is quick to remove... Also certain boards don't count towards your post count. So go ahead and try and spam, see how fast you get your posts deleted and end up on the moderator watch list :-P

When I say shit posts, I don't mean spam, I mean posts that lack any substance at all.
I asked for nothing, and that's just what I got.

Is it just me or does something feel wrong when people join to a forum and feel shocked when they are suppose to post something there.
I guess I have always been wrong when I thought that was kind of the idea.

My guess is that most people are like me, they second guess and under-estimate how much they know or can provide, so they don't talk. Maybe its a fear of rejection by the forum members, or that the admins will get angry or something. I don't know. In any case, any lurker here should take this as a sign to share what you know with the forum, and if you can't learn something you can share.

Well that is why places like the beginner corner exists, meant to be a 'safe place' to ask all the stupid questions you please. Just try to check up on any existing topics first so you dont create the 100th topic on the same subject.

And no one ever has a problem with someone whose legitimately just trying to learn and can show effort in doing so.

^^ This

The problem with most questions that are considered stupid is that they follow a pretty similar pattern, it goes something like this:

[Exclamation] [Subject]

As an example:

HELP! I want to hack facebook.

or

WTF!  I can't hack into my router

These could vary in order and go something like this:

MY BF IS CHEATING ON ME I NEED TO HACK HIS FACEBOOK C'MON GUYS PLEASE HELP ME

There are a couple of variations to this but I think that makes my point, whereas an actual question follows a much different template

[Problem]
[Background]
[Things I have tried]
[Where I am stuck]

If someone follows the second template, I have no problem with pointing them in the right direction.  It doesn't feel like they want me to complete the task at hand for them and I can see they have spent a considerable amount of time on the topic at hand.

QA Engineer walks into a bar. Orders a beer. Orders 0 beers. Orders 999999999 beers. Orders a lizard. Orders -1 beers. Orders a sfdeljknesv.

Should totally do a post template in the beginners corner with this.
